Kindergarten screenings will take place August 3rd - 5th. This is an opportunity for incoming kindergarten students to be screened for class placement and to gain some general information about our new students. Families should have an appointment for one of these dates. If you don’t have a scheduled time or you have any questions, please call the main office at 815-577-7314. Kindergarten parent orientation is Tuesday August 4th at 6PM in the auditorium at Troy Crossroads. This is a parent only informational meeting. Kindergarten teachers will be on hand to give information, tips, and tricks to make it a great start to the year! We look forward to meeting you and your child. The signs are all there…. school supplies are popping up in the stores, fall fashions are out, parents are exhausted, and children are saying they’re “bored.” IT’S ALMOST TIME TO GO ... How are the kids feeling about coming to school? Excited? Nervous? Anxious? All three? Here are a few tips to ease your nerves toward the start of a new school year:
- Bring your child to the school and let them play on the playground. This can create a positive memory even before school starts. - Start adjusting your morning routine and schedule now! Changing bedtime habits and morning routines slowly is much easier and causes less anxiety than making big changes all at once. - Talk to your child about school. Listening, understanding, and reassuring them will make for a better start to the year. - Ask questions. We are a team, and together we can make it a great start to the year! Tonight’s the night! Our first Crossroads Parent Action Committee (PAC) event will be this evening, July 16th, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Chipotle. It is the location near the mall. Go for dinner, and please let them know that you are with Crossroads or show the attached flier. 50% of the proceeds from the night will be given back to our school! I hope your summer is full of fun, friends, and learning! Hope to see you tonight at Chipotle! Update.... Thanks to everyone that came out! It was a very successful first event! Thanks to our PAC for organizing it... We look forward to awesome future events!
Good Afternoon,
The Crossroads Parent Action Committee (PAC) has been hard at work, and I’m excited to share a few fun summer events for our Crossroads Families! Thursday, July 16th from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. will be Crossroads Night at Chipotle located at 2848 Plainfield Road. It is the location near the mall. Go for dinner, and please let them know that you are with Crossroads. 50% of the proceeds from the night will be given back to our school! Then, on Thursday, July 23rd at 2:30p.m., join Ms. Masheimer and Ms. Behun for “Literacy on the Lawn.” Weather permitting, we will be reading on the lawn area in the back of the building near the playground. Bring a blanket, and come enjoy a story. You could even spend some time playing on the playground! Finally, we are in the beginning stages of organizing a Crossroads Family Picnic! Please mark your calendar for Wednesday, August 12th at 12:30. More details to follow! Our next PAC meeting is August 6th at 10 a.m. Please consider joining us! We are planning awesome events for our school! I hope your summer (so far) has been full of fun, friends, and learning! See you soon! Even though school is out for the summer, Crossroads is a busy place! Here are a few of the summer accomplishments so far:
- The secretaries are completing end of year reports and preparing materials for next year! - The building is getting a new roof and new tile in the hallways (and some classrooms). The custodians are ready to wax floors and shampoo carpets, and they have already started cleaning, and moving furniture. - Ms. Behun and I have been busy interviewing teacher candidates, working on class lists, and preparing for next year. We’ve also been involved in summer curriculum work with the teachers to prepare for next year. We have had a very productive start to the summer, and we look forward to accomplishing everything on the Crossroads “to-do” list before the 15-16 school year begins. We can learn every day, even during the summer. One great idea for summer learning is to keep a journal. Journaling about the fun and exciting places that you visit during summer provides a real reason for students to write. Encourage lots of details in student writing. Attach real items to the journal page, such as a photo, brochure, or sticker. Adding this scrapbook feel to a journal makes it very real for children, and it's a nice keepsake too. Take opportunities as they arise to become learning opportunities, such as reading a map. As always, continue reading and practicing math facts this summer too!
We have had several fantastic events over the last few days and weeks. Field day was no exception! Thanks to all the volunteers that helped make it a wonderful day! Great friends, fun, and weather! We had a host of events that could not have been possible without the help of the many parents, staff, and student volunteers that supported this event.
Now we look to the remaining few days of school, and we try to maintain routines and schedules until the end! Your continued support is welcomed and valued as you also maintain regular home events until school is out. Thanks for partnering with us! I'm very excited that we will begin a Parent Action Committee (PAC) at Crossroads for the 2015-2016 school year . We are looking for people that are ready and willing to help with events, fundraising, and ideas for making Crossroads even better than it already is! Join us Friday, May 22nd at 9AM to explore this great opportunity! We did it!!!!! Our students read 121,000 minutes! They exceeded the goal that we set! To congratulate the students and celebrate our love for reading, we had a reading picnic outside today, and I read on the roof ! It was great fun!
