Students in third and fourth grade will take the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers Achievement Tests (PARCC) in just about two weeks. They will test in both Math and English Language Arts.
These are not tests that students can “study for” because the questions reflect the common core standards over time. All of the teaching and learning at Crossroads focus on these standards, and it is very exciting to have our students “show what they know.” They will have a chance to demonstrate content knowledge, problem solving, thinking, reasoning, writing, and technology skills. The students have visited the practice sites and used many technology tools to become familiar with this kind of assessment.
The entire test is computerized, and this first assessment will be scored and combined with the second part of the assessment (taken in May), then PARCC results should be given to the school in the late summer or early fall. The scores will be shared with parents when they become available. For more information on PARCC, go to: http://www.parcconline.org/for-parents
Additionally, here are a few tips for all students (not just on testing days):
- Please be sure your child comes to school well rested.
- Please be sure your child eats a healthy breakfast.
- Remind your student to be an active part of the classroom, and ask questions about what they don’t understand.
I'm confident that our students will ROCK the TEST!
